The latest HTA Market Update reports garden centre and nurseries sales were up six per cent to the end of October.
The HTA’s Garden Retail Monitor reports overall garden retail sales for September up three per cent and for October up 10 per cent.
HTA director of marketing and communications Andrew Maxted said: "The garden industry has made the most of the mild autumn with core garden sales doing well. With increasing numbers of younger consumers taking an interest in their gardens this bodes well for underlying demand next spring."
He added: "While the uncertainties in the Eurozone and the wider economic outlook are concerns for all of us, the garden industry is resilient and we can look forward to a boost from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics in 2012."
