Dutch plant breeder Florist will be promoting its Garvinea innovation around Europe in 2012.
The hardy gerbera flowers from spring till the first frost, is not sensitive to pests and diseases, can resist extreme outdoor conditions, gives up to 100 flowers a plant a year that can be picked and put inside the house in a vase and is available in 20 colours.
It can be planted directly in the garden as well in pots on a terrace.
In the last two years there have been trials in more than 30 countries.
The new Power Flower campaign will feature at Chelsea Flower Show in a schools growing competition in collaboration with The Sun newspaper. the competition will run in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium too, with a final event at Floriade in may.
Keukenhof will feature the plant this year in a 500sqm display and the plant will be shown around the UK in a customised VW van.
